It begins

We just finished our 1st day of Street Summer Basketball. In case you don't know Street Summer Basketball is a inner city camp that Young Life Spain does for free for kids and youth in the downtown areas of cities all over Spain. We have coaches from the U.S. come and teach the kids basketball and life values.
These camps bring the kids out from their houses to work together building friendships and the local community. This year Jonathan (the head of YL in Spain) is stretching the program out to farther and larger cities. We spent the 1st day in downtown Girona and will be heading to the red light district of Barcelona later in the week. The cities we are working in have been very receptive to what we are doing and think it is a great way to build their communities and to teach young people values while keeping them off the streets.

Our 1st day had one of the largest turnouts I have ever seen in my 5 years working at these camps. Usually the 1st day has a few kids and as word gets around the camps get larger. This year our 1st day had a few little kids but a huge number of youth. David and I are excited to see what the next few weeks will hold. We  have a lot (and I mean a lot) of work ahead of us. It's only been the 1st day yet we both are fully loaded with projects.

That is all for now I will try to update this every time I have the chance. Here are some more pictures from David and I.
